The only real question when choosing a certificate. It is about who gets verified, not about how strong the encryption is.

Do I need to buy an SSL certificate?
Not if your site is on one of our hosting plans — every plan includes a free SSL certificate, issued and renewed automatically. You need a paid certificate when your site is hosted somewhere that does not include one, when you want a single certificate to cover every subdomain, or when you want your verified business name inside the certificate itself.
What is the difference between DV and OV validation?
Domain validation (DV) proves you control the domain, which is checked automatically in minutes. Organization validation (OV) additionally verifies that your business is a real, registered entity, so your company name appears in the certificate details. Both produce the same padlock and the same encryption strength; OV adds verified identity, not stronger security.
Is a paid certificate more secure than a free one?
No. The encryption is identical — the same TLS, the same key strength, the same padlock. What you pay for is coverage (a wildcard covering unlimited subdomains), validated business identity (OV), and a larger warranty. If a free certificate covers your setup, use it.
What does a wildcard certificate cover?
One certificate secures the domain and every subdomain one level below it, so shop.yourbusiness.com, app.yourbusiness.com and staging.yourbusiness.com are all covered without issuing a certificate for each. It does not cover a second, different domain.
How long does it take to get my certificate?
DV certificates are usually issued within minutes of validation completing. OV certificates take one to three business days because a human verifies your business registration details.
Does the certificate renew automatically?
Certificates are issued for a one-year term and billed annually. Auto-renew is on by default and we email you before the renewal date, but a renewed certificate still has to be re-validated and re-installed, so do not ignore those emails if your site is hosted elsewhere.
Can I get a refund on a certificate?
SSL certificates are non-refundable once issued, in the same way domain registrations are. The 30-day money-back guarantee covers shared hosting and VPS plans only. If you are unsure which certificate fits, ask us before ordering.
